Pancreatic hyperfunction: hypofunction

Often, with chronic inflammation of the pancreas, hypofunction appears.

But in some people, the work of the organ may not weaken, but only becomes stronger, in which case hyperfunction of the pancreas appears.

This syndrome is rare in medical practice, but it is a serious disorder.

The main factor for the development of a pathological condition is a high rate of insulin in the body.

Main reasons

There are several main reasons why the pancreas becomes overactive.

Factors include pathologies that can occur outside the affected organ. Possible problems include:

  1. Improper treatment of diabetes, during which the body receives insulin in sick volumes. The problem develops due to the administration of the substance on an empty stomach or when the dose is incorrectly calculated.
  2. Insuloma is a neoplasm that appears from the islets of Langerhans. Most often, these tumors are caused by several hormones. A similar problem is the involvement of a large number of cells in the pancreatic islets. As a rule, the formation is benign, which indicates the absence of metastases. If the cause is not addressed, then a large volume of insulin can cause negative consequences for a person that are difficult to adjust.
  3. Certain tumors in the brain.

In addition to the reasons described, it is important to recognize the symptoms of the syndrome in order to start timely treatment and eliminate the consequences.

The main symptoms

The overactive pancreas is caused by hypoglycemia, which is considered the main symptom of the problem.

Due to the infrequent diagnosis of the disease, patients and doctors often confuse the problem with other pathological processes that have similar symptoms.

For the period of exacerbation, the following signs can be distinguished:

  1. After sleeping in the morning, patients cannot quickly navigate, patients can carry out the same actions, repeat words or answer questions inappropriately.
  2. An obvious psychomotor disorder appears. Patients become overactive, but do not perform the necessary tasks, people simply do not find a place, so there is a feeling that a person is in a state of alcohol or drug intoxication.
  3. Seizures similar to epilepsy begin, but their duration is longer.
  4. Neurovegetative disorders appear with sudden surges in pressure, strong sweating, redness of the skin of the face and malfunctioning of the heart.
  5. With the development of hypoglycemia, the development of impaired consciousness is possible. The strength of the symptom is different for each person; in the most advanced case, a coma begins.
  6. The appearance of a "dreamlike" state is possible, when the patient goes in an incomprehensible direction, while he himself does not realize it. When the symptom passes, the patient does not understand why he was in a certain place and how it happened.

In addition to exacerbations of hypoglycemia, patients with hyperfunction may have a chronic course of the disease. In this case, the main symptoms change:

  1. Due to the defeat of certain nerve endings on the tongue and face, muscle paralysis can occur. People lose the sense of taste, swallowing ability is lost, the upper part of the pharynx is not felt.
  2. Reflexes fail.
  3. After a certain time, the state of memory deteriorates, the possibility of mental activity decreases, and all skills gradually disappear.

If a patient develops a malignant insulinoma, then signs develop that are suitable for many other oncological diseases:

  1. Stool is disturbed, characterized by diarrhea.
  2. There are obvious pains in the abdominal cavity.
  3. Paresis.
  4. Weight problems.

When the described symptoms appear, one should immediately go to a doctor who can diagnose, establish a diagnosis and methods of treatment.

Diagnosis

During the diagnosis of hyperfunction, doctors collect the main symptoms and complaints of the patient, after which the medical history is studied.

To accurately determine the violation, other examination methods are used:

  1. A test is carried out to clarify the norm of glucose in the blood, the method is carried out on an empty stomach, and the numbers may be less than 2-3 mmol / l.
  2. An analysis of the rate of insulin in the body is done. Radiommunological analysis is best suited; in case of illness, the volume of insulin will be more than 72 mmol / L.
  3. Proinsulin is determined, as well as C-peptide.
  4. Fasting tests are carried out, and after 12-15 hours the patient has an attack of hypoglycemia, the blood sugar rate decreases to 2.7 mmol / l, with the introduction of a solution with glucose into a vein, symptoms disappear.
  5. For instrumental research methods, CT, MRI and other possible methods are used.

After establishing an accurate diagnosis, doctors draw up a treatment regimen and recommendations for the patient. All techniques are selected individually for a specific person.

Treatment

If there is an exacerbation of glycemia, then the patient needs to eat foods that contain sugar.

If the symptoms are obvious and severe, then treatment will be required in a hospital setting, where glucose is injected directly into a vein to the patient.

In such a state, a person needs constant monitoring by medical personnel. Analyzes to determine the norm of sugar are carried out every hour.

If a neoplasm appears, then it is necessary to carry out surgical treatment with the removal of the tumor.

With a malignant form of the disease, a person needs to additionally undergo a course of chemotherapy. If surgical treatment is not possible, then medications are used.

The main task of therapy is to stabilize and maintain the amount of sugar in the blood within the normal range.

For treatment, doctors prescribe medications that reduce the secretion of insulin by the gland. For this purpose, you need to take Diazoxide and Octreotide. Glucagon is used to increase blood sugar.

Medicines that reduce insulin secretion gradually worsen the external secretion of enzymes.

Due to the complex of drugs, it is supplemented with enzyme tablets, including Pancreatin, Festal.

It is important during treatment to adhere to a correct and strict diet, observe a drinking regimen, which should be plentiful and repeated.

It is best to add foods with a large amount of carbohydrates to the diet and remove unhealthy foods, carbonated drinks.

As a supplement, it is recommended to cook and drink rosehip broth or weak green tea.

It is recommended to refuse:

  1. Fatty and fried.
  2. Spicy, smoked.
  3. Butter.
  4. Any spices and spices are excluded.

You need to eat often and in small portions. All food and drinks must be warm, hot and cold are prohibited.

The patient must follow the doctor's recommendations, control the blood sugar rate. Eating a diet allows you to increase glucose and reduce blood insulin.

Hypofunction

Pancreatic hypofunction is much more common than hyperfunction. The problem develops due to insufficient secretion of insulin by the gland, as well as with the development of diabetes.

The problem is characterized by the destruction of the pancreatic islets. The risk group includes people who have:

  1. Genetic predisposition.
  2. Weight problems.
  3. Frequent stress, emotional instability.

The symptomatology of the disease is different, depending on the personal characteristics of the patient, as well as the stage of the disease.

Often in medicine, it is customary to distinguish several main signs of hypofunction of the gland:

  1. Severe dehydration of the body, which is complemented by an unquenchable thirst.
  2. The mucous membrane of the mouth will be constantly dry.
  3. The flow of urine is frequent and strong.
  4. The patient's weight decreases sharply.
  5. Vomiting and nausea begin.
  6. Pain syndrome appears in the abdominal region.
  7. Clouding of consciousness.
  8. After everyday work, severe weakness and fatigue begins.

To determine the disease, tests are taken. With the help of a urine test, the glucose rate is determined.

Therapy can be carried out immediately after the test results are received and the first step is artificial insulin in order to equalize the blood sugar rate.

If digestive malfunctions are added to the described signs, the head starts spinning, and weakness becomes chronic, then the possibility of a diabetic coma increases.

Such symptoms require a quick donation of blood and urine for examination. The pathology cannot be cured, but if the treatment is selected correctly, then the quality and duration of life increases significantly.

Compliance with the basic rules of treatment and nutrition with hypofunction and hyperfunction of the pancreas makes it possible to improve the general condition and quality of life.

Although the disease cannot be completely cured, but diligent adherence to the rules and control of the state of the blood, the organ makes it possible to improve the performance.

Any deviation from therapy or nutrition causes exacerbation of diseases, deterioration of the condition.

Predictions will be favorable if preventive measures are followed and frequent examination by a doctor who can promptly notice deviations from the norms and the development of complications.
