Do Asthma Disability? This question is asked by many patients, since bronchial asthma occurs quite often and is difficult to cure. This disease often leads to serious complications.

Asthma is a serious chronic disease that affects the bronchi as well as the lungs. The increase in symptoms contributes to a strong narrowing in the airways and the appearance of characteristic shortness of breath and cough. However, the diagnosed disease is almost always accompanied by complications that allow patients to become disabled.
Disability groups
A disability group is assigned based on the severity of the disease, the patient's ability to perform professional activities and self-care. Of no small importance is the possibility of psychological interaction with people.
Based on the severity of the manifestations of bronchial asthma, 3 groups of disability are divided:
Third group
Disability with mild asthma of 3 groups is given in the presence of the middle stage of the disease. Only then is a restriction on work activity established for the patient. In some cases, a shorter working day and restrictions on employment with harmful substances (smoke, dust, paints and varnishes, etc.) may be recommended. As a rule, glucocorticosteroid drugs are recommended for such patients.

Such disability is established in patients with moderate bronchial symptoms.
Group 3 is established based on the following symptoms:
- insufficient breathing functionality, the symptoms of which can appear during physical exertion;
- inability to work;
- difficulties in movement and self-service.
In this case, it is necessary to reduce the workload, and in some cases, the work activity.
Second group
Disability for asthmatic disease of group 2 is given as a result of impaired pulmonary function of the middle stage. In addition, it is established in case of violations in the hormonal background, disruptions in the endocrine system, which leads to violations of the functional abilities of the kidneys and pancreas. Such complications usually contribute to the onset of diabetic diseases.

The second group is recommended for appointment with 2 and 3 degrees of asthma severity, if there is no improvement and a pronounced general deterioration in the patient's condition.
The criteria for registration of the 2nd group of asthma are:
- obvious manifestations of respiratory failure, the symptoms of which are noted even with minimal physical activity;
- symptoms may be complicated by heart failure;
- obvious violations in the peripheral circulation;
- the presence of concomitant diseases, such as diabetes and adrenal gland malfunctions, which occur after hormone therapy;
- impossibility of self-service and performing professional activities.
When assigning group 2, the patient was prescribed the lightest possible working conditions with the possibility of home work.

First group
Disability, when asthma is most severe, provides for the establishment of 1 disability group. It is prescribed when the consequences in the body are irreversible and is indicated for patients with increasing symptoms of asthma that develop after specific therapy.
The criteria for registration of group 1 are:
- cases where asthma is constantly complicated, despite the ongoing treatment;
- respiratory manifestations are pronounced, and shortness of breath may be present constantly, even at rest. Emphysema in the lungs is often present;

- insufficient work of the cardiovascular system;
- severe complications in internal organs;
- absolute impossibility to service oneself and move independently. These complications require outside help;
- complete loss of the ability to work of any kind.
It must be remembered that bronchial disease may not lead to disability. This issue is discussed on an individual basis, even if there are no obvious manifestations of the severity of the disease. The basis for the appointment of a medical commission may be concomitant pathologies and analysis of the state of the body after taking hormonal drugs.
Disability registration rules
First of all, it is necessary to analyze the disorders in the body that have occurred since the detection of asthmatic disease. As a rule, disability is assigned to a patient based on disorders in the body that have occurred during the illness. If these changes are minimal or none at all, the patient may be denied a disability group.
In case of bronchial disease, the medical commission may pay attention to the following complications:
- repeated and prolonged suffocation;
- insufficient work of the cardiac and pulmonary systems
- chronic inflammation in the pulmonary system;
- hormonal dependence of the patient.
Most often, bronchial asthma develops in a delayed manner, especially in a child. In this case, medication is prescribed, which effectively relieves an asthma attack, allowing the patient to lead a normal life for a long time.
At the initial stage, the patient should be registered in connection with bronchial disease in local medical institutions, and then he is sent for treatment in a hospital.

Before registering a disability, you should consult with a doctor who can offer alternative methods of a treatment regimen, if there are no contraindications for this.
The medical commission is held in the polyclinic, and then the therapist or pulmonologist makes their conclusion, based on the results of the examination by all doctors, and issues a special form for the ITU. In any case, a doctor, even if he has doubts about registering a disability, is obliged to give a certificate to the ITU (medical and social examination).
Required examinations to obtain disability
The recommended minimum should include the following activities:
- blood sampling for general analysis;
- blood for biochemistry;

- it is necessary to collect a general urine test;
- sputum culture;
- spirography;
- pulmonary radiography;
- ECG;
- consultation of specialists.

The appointment of additional examinations depends on the severity of the condition. For example, prolonged use of hormone therapy requires examination of the adrenal glands.
After passing the commission, it is recommended to obtain all the conclusions and consult a doctor who will properly draw up a medical record for further passing the ITU.
List of documents for the medical commission
An asthma patient should have with him:
- passport (if it is absent - any identity document);
- card with passed commission;
- policy;
- referral to the commission.

Based on the attached documents and personal conversation, the expert commission makes a decision on the assignment or refusal of disability. If the patient does not agree with the decision of the commission, he can challenge the opinion with the regional office.
It is important to know that in the absence of exacerbations of asthma, this disease can interfere with the full life of the patient and especially the child. Therefore, the right to receive disability for any person is legally enshrined.
Peculiarities
Asthma often occurs in a child. Therefore, in the future, these people have to fight all their lives so that asthma does not manifest as complications.
With a mild degree of bronchial asthma in a child, disability, as a rule, is not prescribed, since there is a possibility that the child will "outgrow" the disease. Therefore, disability and related benefits are awarded only if asthma is severe to moderate.

It is important to take into account that there are so-called "professional traps" when a diagnosis is made in a medical opinion: allergic asthma. This is a reason to refuse to receive a disability. If the doctor has made such a conclusion, a complete examination by an allergist must be performed to rule out the possibility of allergies.
Patients should be aware that every ambulance call during an attack must be officially registered. This will help with the registration of the status. If there are really serious health problems, getting a disability when asthma is present is simply vital, there are absolutely no obstacles for this.
