Treatment of otitis in children
There is such a disease in children, called otitis. It is infectious, the process of inflammation with it causes pathogenic bacteria( these are pneumococci, staphylococci and streptococci) that enter the middle ear through the auditory opening of the tube. More often otitis small children develops on a background of acute respiratory diseases, to the newborn this disease gets in the amniotic fluid through the middle ear.
Treatment of
If there is a suspicion of otitisus, you should consult a clinic or call a pediatrician at home. When the child shows signs of illness, it is better not to wait for the doctor to come, but to show it to the otolaryngologist. Usually, in an acute course of the disease, ENT doctors prescribe a general course of treatment, which includes taking antibacterial drugs, vasoconstricting drops in the nose and preparations for local use. To prevent complications, the child should be treated for at least seven days, especially if he is under 3 years old.
Required for otitis and treatment of local nature. Great help from various thermal procedures - vodka or semi-alcohol compresses, heating with a blue lamp. If otitis purulent, it is recommended to inject tampons with antiseptic and antibiotic impregnation into the ear canals. But before the treatment begins, pus from the hearing cavity is removed.
Auxiliary treatment for this disease is physiotherapy, which includes UV, mud therapy, laser therapy, UHF.
The treatment course for middle otitis lasts for one week, with purulent treatment - up to two weeks. It must be remembered that the treatment should be carried out depending on its period, i.e. Therapeutic tactics are always different. Before starting treatment with antibiotics, you need to find out the sensitivity of the child to this drug. It also happens that the drug is replaced by another. Therefore, it is undesirable for parents to use the experience of previous courses of treatment in order to avoid undesirable consequences and masking the disease pattern so as not to complicate the diagnosis.
Local treatment according to
regulations Compresses. They can be applied only in the presence of catarrhal otitis media, with purulent otitis this treatment is contraindicated. How is the compress produced at home?
It should be a four-layer:
- in 1 layer of gauze in 4 additions;
- in 2 layers of oilcloth;
- in 3 small wadded piece;
- in 4 handkerchief, fixing the compress.
Each of the layers should be larger than the previous one for a couple of cm. Fold the cheesecloth, then make a hole in it so that you can put it on your ear. Moisten in alcohol solution. Alternately, overlay each of the layers and secure with a handkerchief. The compress lasts about 4 hours.
Ear drops
Until the ENT doctor examines, you can not drop drops with alcohol content. If the tympanic membrane is broken, the solution will enter the middle ear and damage the auditory ossicles and the auditory nerve. From this, deafness can begin. In order not to cause harm, use the medication on the tampon in this way: insert a tampon into the ear, drip a medicine on it, pre-heating it up to 36 grams.
To warm up the medicine you need to hold the bottle with the contents in boiling water for literally a minute. You can heat the pipette and then take the medicine.
Ear drops that have an anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect, it is advisable to always have a home medicine chest. Otypax, for example, is a drug that is sold without prescription.
Care tips
- It is necessary for the child to have a chance to breathe freely with his nose, which requires regular cleaning of the nose from mucus with a special pear or flagella soaked in baby oil.
- Keep your ears warm, for this you need to wear a cap or cap all day long.
- You can not bathe a child during illness, you can simply wipe it with a towel soaked in warm water.
- Do not take the baby out for a walk until normal body temperature is restored and the ear pain ceases. In the fresh air you can only be in a hat.
Complications of otitis media are treated by surgery. Perhaps overgrowth of acute otitis media into chronic otitis media. This process can occur for various reasons - this is a decrease in immunity, chronic diseases, rickets, diabetes mellitus. For chronic otitis, a favorable environment creates a protracted runny nose, enlarged adenoids, curvature of the septum in the nose. The main sign of this disease is a persistent, periodically arising, purulent discharge from the ear. When you examine the tympanic membrane, there is a hole in it. But if the disease takes on this form already, there is a threat that the baby may be hearing impaired.
