Potassium permanganate from nail fungus

How does potassium permanganate fight fungus?

Potassium permanganate is a strong antiseptic used as a solution. Its use can be universal - gargling, bathing, treating wounds. But in the composition of potassium permanganate there are no components with antifungal effect. Therefore, it can be used as an adjuvant in combination with other folk and medicinal preparations.

It is important to start treating the nail fungus at an early stage of the disease, until the infectious process has spread to the entire plate and interdigital tissues. In this case, the pathology is easily amenable to therapy based on folk remedies. The use of potassium permanganate (preferably and additional drugs) will be enough to kill mycosis.

With an advanced form of the disease, potassium permanganate will not have such an effect, against the background of which it will continue to progress and precious time for successful and quick treatment will be lost.

Everyone has heard about the beneficial properties of potassium permanganate, since it is used not only for onychomycosis, but for the treatment of many skin pathologies, disinfection of wound surfaces and rinsing. As for the fungal infection of the nail, the following characteristics of potassium permanganate listed in the table are considered valuable.

Healing properties Description
ANTIMICROBIAL AND ANTISEPTIC The powerful oxidative effect of the drug causes the release of active oxygen, which destroys the pathogenic microflora and disinfects nearby tissues.
ANTI-INFLAMMATORY Dries up, suppressing pathogenetic processes in the focus of infection, and promoting faster regeneration of damaged tissues.
INTOXICATION Neutralizes the toxic effects of various harmful compounds of both chemical and organic origin.

And again I want to remind you that potassium permanganate solution is effective only at the initial stage of onychomycosis and candidiasis. In other cases, the solution to the problem should be approached comprehensively.

How is the treatment carried out?

Prescriptions based on potassium permanganate give good results for both therapeutic and prophylactic purposes. Let's see how to apply them in practice.

Trays with potassium permanganate. Add a few crystals of potassium permanganate to three liters of hot water to obtain a pink solution (if you overdo it, you may burn your skin).

Trays with potassium permanganate

For 15 minutes, keep the nails of the feet or hands affected by the fungus in the resulting bath, after which they must be dried using a towel and additionally apply auxiliary agents to the lesions - hydrogen peroxide, iodine or brilliant green. They will enhance the antimicrobial healing effect of potassium permanganate, contributing to a faster destruction of the fungus.

Potassium permanganate and propolis. Make a foot bath, as in the previous case, using manganese. And after that, treat the affected surface of the nails and fingers with a mixture of 30 ml of medical alcohol and 30 g of propolis. The procedures are carried out every other day until the symptoms of the disease disappear.

Potassium permanganate and vinegar. This method is considered to be the most effective, since it helps with an advanced form of onychomycosis in a short time. Both agents have a pronounced antimicrobial effect, and vinegar can kill nail fungus at the level of spores.

Potassium permanganate and vinegar

The recipe is quite simple: add a few crystals of potassium permanganate and 1 tbsp. To three liters of water heated to 50 ° C. a spoonful of vinegar. For 20 minutes, keep your feet in the prepared bath, while doing it, it is desirable shortly before bedtime. The course of treatment is 7 days.

Potassium permanganate and garlic. Another effective tandem for the fight against onychomycosis. The method is simple: first, steam the feet in a bath with the addition of potassium permanganate, and then apply freshly squeezed garlic juice to the dried nails. The course of treatment is from 7 to 14 days, depending on the neglect of the pathological process.

Lotions with lemon. The fight against onychomycosis with potassium permanganate is a long and systematic process. In addition to trays and the use of auxiliary components, you can use a recipe for lotions based on potassium permanganate.

This folk remedy can cure infectious foci on the skin around the fingers affected by the fungus. To prepare it you will need:

  • 1 glass of water heated to 45 degrees;
  • juice of one lemon;
  • 0.5 tsp spoons of potassium permanganate.
Lotions

In the resulting solution, a napkin is abundantly moistened and applied to the foci of infection. Cotton socks are put on top and left for 15 minutes.

Lotions with kombucha. Another good remedy for fighting onychomycosis. It is prepared from ½ cup of kombucha infusion and the same amount of potassium permanganate solution. In the resulting product, a gauze napkin is moistened and the feet are wrapped in it for 15 minutes. Then the surface of the nails and skin is treated with antifungal drugs of a medicinal nature.

Such lotions effectively relieve itching and burning, which provokes onychomycosis at the initial stage of the disease. They also have antimicrobial and regenerative effects.

Wraps. This method makes it possible to kill fungal spores deep in the structure of the nail plate. To prepare the product you will need:

  • 30 ml warm water;
  • 1 tbsp. a spoonful of onions, chopped to a state of gruel;
  • several crystals of potassium permanganate.
Wraps

Combine all the components, drain the excess water and treat the nails and nearby skin with the resulting mixture. A plastic bag and warm socks are put on top of the limbs. During the procedure, the patient may feel discomfort in the form of a burning sensation; it is important to endure this sensation for at least 10 minutes. Body wraps are carried out every 7 days.

Antifungal compress. An inconvenient but effective method that can cure a mycotic infection at home in a fairly short period of time.

Prepare a foot bath of three liters of warm water and potassium permanganate. After it, the feet are not wiped, but immediately smeared abundantly with birch tar, wrapped in foil and put on socks on top. They go to bed like this. In the morning, the compress is removed, the legs are washed in a bath with the addition of soda, which will help eliminate the unpleasant smell of tar, cut off the torn tissue.

Anti-fungal compress

The method allows you to destroy the infection in just a few applications in full.

Antifungal with garlic. Prepare a gruel from several cloves of garlic and a strong solution of potassium permanganate. Apply it to feet and nails for about 30 minutes. Do not keep it longer, as the ingredients can burn the skin. Wash your feet in warm water and soap.

This recipe helps not only to destroy the pathogenic microflora, but also to prevent possible recurrence of the infection.

Precautionary measures

  • Treatment of nail fungus with potassium permanganate must be practiced with care. If you add more than required ingredients, the concentrated potassium permanganate solution can cause chemical burns. That is, the definition "the more the better" in the case of this drug does not work.
  • If during the procedure the body reacts to the therapeutic effect with strong discomfort in the form of a burning sensation, you need to add more water to the remedy.
  • In addition, it is necessary to prevent contact of undissolved potassium permanganate crystals with the skin.
Precautionary measures
  • All recipes based on potassium permanganate have a drying effect. This means that after the procedure, it is advisable to additionally moisturize the skin with creams and antifungal ointments.
  • To prevent infection with mycosis of the feet in the future, after recovery, you should continue to process them in a weak solution of potassium permanganate for prophylactic purposes at least 2 times a week.

Unfortunately, fungal spores are highly adaptive. And if earlier potassium permanganate acted destructively on them, then after some time the method may not work. Therefore, you should not get involved in self-medication for a long time - if there is no effect, you need to contact a specialist.

Use for children, pregnant and lactating

Potassium permanganate for external use is not contraindicated in these patients. Even newborns from the first days are recommended to bathe in water with the addition of several crystals of potassium permanganate.

The main thing is not to overdo it with the use of this product, as the concentrated treatment solution can dry out and even burn the healthy layers of the skin.

Contraindications and side effects

A solution of potassium permanganate is not used if it was possible to determine the individual hypersensitivity to the drug. It is not difficult to check in this regard - the following side effects and complications will tell you about the intolerance of potassium permanganate:

  • swelling of tissues;
  • changes in the color of mucous membranes and skin;
  • severe itching and other signs of discomfort at the site of application;
  • convulsive syndrome, etc.

Having found such symptoms, you should stop using potassium permanganate and consult a doctor to determine their origin.
