Amorolfine for nail fungus

Composition, release form and price

The active ingredient of the drug is amorolfine hydrochloride, a morpholine derivative. The medicine has three forms of release:

  • varnish;
  • spray;
  • cream;

For each gram of the listed medications, there are 5 ml of amorolfine hydrochloride. This component is included in the group of strong antimycotics, which have a combined fungistatic and fungicidal effects.

Amorolfine cannot be called a cheap remedy - its price is higher than some analogues of Russian production. It is an imported medicine produced by the Indian company Ratiopharm. The cost of the drug directly depends on its form of release. Let's consider these indicators in a small table.

Type of medication Prices for Russia and Ukraine
LAC RUB 900 and 367 gr.
CREAM 1650 RUB and 780 gr.
SPRAY 1160 RUB and 540 gr.

A significant influence on how much a drug costs in a pharmacy depends on the community where the patient lives and the provider's margins. Amorolfine in any form of release can be bought without a medical prescription.

Operating principle

When applied to nails and skin affected by the fungus, Amorolfin actively penetrates into the cellular membranes of pathogenic microorganisms, interfering with the production of vital enzymes and destroying them structure. As a result, the causative agents of onychomycosis and candidiasis die, since their further growth and reproduction becomes impossible.

Thus, the drug cleans the tissue from fungal spores, enhances local immune defenses and prevents re-infection by microbes. Amorolfine is practically not absorbed into the systemic circulation and does not have a negative effect on the body, working exclusively in the lesion locally. But, when it comes to running nail fungus, the drug is prescribed in combination with oral antimycotics - antibiotics with a fungicidal effect.

Indications

Amorolfine is recommended for the treatment and prevention of mycotic infections that affect the nails and human skin. In this case, the therapeutic effect of the drug is directed against the following types of mushrooms:

  • yeast;
  • moldy;
  • dermatophytes;
  • dimorphic.

Instructions for use

To increase the effectiveness of any of the forms of Amorolfine, it is necessary to start medical procedures after preliminary preparation of the nails. To do this, the feet or hands (depending on the localization of the pathological process) are steamed in a hot bath with the addition of emollients - sea salt or soda. After the procedure, the limbs are wiped dry. The edges of the nail ridges affected by the infection are cut short by processing the top layer of the plate with a nail file or pumice stone. Then they begin to carry out therapeutic measures.

Preparing for therapy

APPLICATION OF VARNISH. Nail polish, like other Amorolfin preparations, are recommended for use in the early stages of onychomycosis. At this stage, the nail plate should be affected no more than ⅓ of the total area, while maintaining relatively healthy appearance, and the nearby skin is not affected by infectious process.

The kit for this form of release of Amorolfine includes:

  • the remedy itself;
  • disposable nail files;
  • tampons for cleaning the treated surface;
  • applicators for applying medication.

In the course of therapy, it is not recommended to use cosmetics for nails, to carry out procedures for manicure and pedicure in salons and at home, visit public places with a high risk of infection fungus. All medical manipulations are carried out in disposable gloves that prevent the spread of onychomycosis pathogens to healthy parts of the body.

The varnish is used according to the following scheme:

  • the surface of the nails is treated with a nail file, removing fragments of the affected tissue as much as possible;
  • the tampon is moistened in alcohol and the plate is degreased with it;
  • apply varnish with the applicator to the prepared foci of the disease and leave to dry, without touching the drug for at least 3 minutes.

The medicine is used according to the scheme - 1 time in 7 days. The duration of therapy can be 3 months. If there are no positive changes during this time, it is recommended to consult a doctor and replace the drug with a more effective one.

CREAM APPLICATION. This form of release is mainly prescribed for chronic fungal infection, while the medication can be used both as an independent agent and in combination with systemic antimycotics taken inside.

After preliminary preparation and cleansing of the nails, the cream is applied to the treated surface with gentle massaging movements, with the capture of nearby healthy skin and plate tissues. The manipulation is carried out according to the scheme - 3 times a week for 1.5 months.

Application of the cream

SPRAY APPLICATION. Alomorphine aerosol is usually recommended for use as a prophylactic agent. Along with topical treatments for nail fungus, it can be used to disinfect footwear. In this case, the scheme for using the drug is fully consistent with the cream.

Is the remedy effective for advanced nail fungus?

As mentioned above, Amorolfine can be used for chronic onychomycosis, which is characterized by chronic the course of the infectious process and serious damage to the nails, but it is advisable to combine local therapy with systemic.

This is due to the fact that external drugs "work" exclusively in the focus of the disease, that is, they destroy the fungus locally. With an advanced form of pathology, the causative agents of onychomycosis penetrate the body, and in order to cope with this, it is necessary to connect the means of heavy artillery to the treatment, in particular, oral antimycotics of systemic character.

Use for children, pregnant and lactating

Despite the fact that the active components of the drug practically do not penetrate the general bloodstream and act mainly in the area of application, Amorolfin is not recommended to be used to combat nail fungus in pregnant women and nursing women. In any case, doctors regard the use of this drug as a possible risk to the fetus and infant.

The reaction of the body of children to the use of Amorolfine has not been subjected to scientific research. Therefore, this medication is also included in the list of restrictions on prescription among young patients.

Contraindications, side effects

The list of prohibitions for the use of Amorolfine is as follows:

  • pregnancy and breastfeeding;
  • childhood;
  • individual hypersensitivity to the composition of the drug;
  • open wound surfaces, ulcers, etc.

Amorolfine is a low-toxic drug that, if the instructions for use are followed, does not cause undesirable reactions from the body. Among the negative effects are:

  • redness in the focus of treatment;
  • burning, itching;
  • rashes on the skin.

As a rule, such a reaction of the body does not require additional intervention and goes away on its own within a few hours. If the feeling of discomfort lasts longer than the specified period, you need to see a doctor.

Overdose

During clinical studies, no cases of drug overdose were identified.

Interaction with other drugs

Amorolfine does not interact with any medications, so its use can be combined with any medications.

Analogs and their cost

The drug we are considering contains the active ingredient of the same name - amorolfine hydrochloride. The same component is part of the generics of the drug that are used to treat fungal infections due to a similar mechanism of influence.

The closest in structural structure and therapeutic activity to Amorolfine are Lotseril solution and Oflomil varnish. Since all drugs have the same active ingredient, the effectiveness of their use is similar. Therefore, in the absence of the body's susceptibility to amorolfine hydrochloride, a specialist can replace the drug with the analogs listed below:

LAMISIL. Antifungal based on terbinafine. Available in the form of tablets, spray and gel. All forms of the drug are recommended for the treatment of onychomycosis and other fungal skin lesions. The price of Lamisil in Russia varies within 550 rubles, in Ukraine - 180 hryvnia.

Lamisil, MikoseptinMIKOSEPTIN. Antimycotic ointment, which contains undecylenic acid and zinc undecylenate. It is prescribed for fungal infections of the skin and nails. The cost of the drug is from 279 rubles in Russia and 112 hryvnia in Ukraine.

The list of Amorolfine analogs can be very long, since there are many drugs with fungicidal and fungistatic effects intended for local therapy.
